The Amazing Disappearing Quarter Trick

EFFECT:

An American quarter is placed on a piece of paper. It is then covered with a see through glass. With a wave of the magic wand and some magic words, the quarter VANISHES into thin air. The quarter is then produced from beneath the table! Creating an illusion of a quarter passing through the solid table from beneath a see through glass! In FULL view of the audience! Can be done completely surrounded!

PREPARATION:

First you will need some materials, as follows; a see through glass, three pieces of paper (8½x11 works good), a quarter and some glue, preferably rubber cement but any kind will do.

Take one of the pieces of paper and lay it flat on a table. Then take the glass and turn it upside-down on top of the piece of paper (open mouth down). Trace the outside of the glass with a pencil, then cut out the shape of the glass. (If you have a razor blade, you can cut out the shape without tracing it.) Now you must glue the cut-out directly over the rim of the glass (fig.1). If you notice, the "secret paper" attached to the glass can not be seen when the glass is placed face down on top another piece of paper that is the same color. Place the prepared glass aside.

Take another piece of paper and wrap it around the prepared glass and tape it to make a paper tube (fig.2). This tube should be able to move freely up & down off the glass without binding or getting stuck, so be sure not to make it too tight.

With the last piece of paper laying flat on the table, you are now ready to perform The Vanishing Quarter Through The Table.

WORKING:

Take your prepared (secret) glass and place it upside-down (open mouth down) on top of a flat piece of paper of the same color as the "secret paper" glued to the mouth of the glass. If you notice the secret paper is undetectable, even if you slide it along the piece of paper. Now place a quarter in front of the prepared glass and bring on the audience. Fig. 3 shows how you should begin.

Draw your audiences attention to the paper tube you made earlier and show it to be empty. Now slide it over the prepared glass. Squeeze the paper tubing and the glass firmly, while lifting them both together and place it on top of the quarter. (Really the quarter is hidden under the secret paper glued to the rim of the glass). With a few magic stokes you lift the paper tube (ONLY) to reveal the quarter has VANISHED. You then slowly bring a different quarter, which was either taped under the table or resting on your lap, up on top of the table to prove the quarter has passed right through the table! This can be done completely surrounded, totally one handed without any hand sleights. You can reverse this and transfer the quarter beneath the glass again. Of coarse, you'll need to get rid of the quarter you "produced" by either putting it in your pocket or vanishing it with another illusion. There are many ways to vanish quarters.

The audience will question the non-transparent paper tube which covered the glass. You oblige and let them examine it.  NEVER will they question a GLASS they already can SEE THROUGH!  Before they know what hit them, you are off to blow their minds with another Fantastic Illusion!
